First I cropped out the fruit/planets out of the original image, then pasted it onto the canvas. I drew in the shadows of the fruits using the brush tool with the brush size at about 1000 px. I also changed the colour of the fruits/planets to a red using hue/saturation and adjusting the hue.

BACKGROUND [WATER DROP]

I inverted the colour of the whole image so that it becomes a dark image, and adjusted the colour to create the red water reflections.

eg. Neptune.

This project took a completely different turn to what I originally planned [I wanted to create a FULL COLOUR image rather than a monotone one] but I guess it didn’t turn out too bad. Also I wanted the planets to be floating in space with a starry background but ended up showing the objects submerged into the water…not sure how that idea came about.

Anyway this project was quite fun, and would’ve been better if I knew how to create shadows based on the shapes of the original objects, rather than having to draw them in to create the desired effect.

Created the background using the Pen tool in Photoshop

Traced the Pocky logo using Illustrator Pen tool

Created the 3D Pocky stick in Illustrator using the Pen and 3D > Revolve tool.

Arranged text and images onto the box template by copying from Illustrator to Photoshop…

Nutrition facts was created using Illustrator and pasted into Photoshop. Other information were added directly onto Photoshop using the Text tool.

And now… the finished product.

Created a 3D view of the box using Illustrator 3D > Bevel & Extrude > Map Area.

And… all done. Next up… Digital Alchemy!

I didn’t give myself much time for this exercise as expected.

Here are the two images I used…

I quickly cropped out the sky from the image of the mountain so it looks like this:

The cropped image was then pasted and arranged on the DL-sized artboard. I then applied a black background behind the mountains and applied a canvas texture filter for the whole image.

With the image of the moon, I cropped out chosen phases to put into the design. I applied the same texture effect as I did with the background, and pasted them individually onto the DL artboard.

After arranging the moon phases onto the artboard, I added in the quote using the ‘Horizontal Type Mask Tool’ on top of the moon images. But for the word ‘change’ and ‘Andy Warhol’ I used the normal ‘Horizontal Type Tool’.

The end result?

COMPLETE!

Looking back, it doesn’t really resemble any of the Dada/Pop art images in the inspiration post…

The quote says: “Life is a kind of Chess, with struggle, competition, good and ill events” – Benjamin Franklin. I thought it complimented the arrangement of the pieces in the scene; it’s as though they’re at war.

End result, though badly cropped.

I am aware that my file submission for assessment does not look exactly like this. The submission had the uncropped oval shape of the hill, in other words it goes WAY beyond the artboard lines.

I noticed that the placement of the moon is incorrect, since it’s placed on the opposite side of where the shine/lighter side of the pieces are.

But I’m finished with this exercise.
